10 Things Most Couples Forget to Plan for (But You Definitely Shouldn’t)

You’ve got the big stuff covered—venue, dress, photographer—but weddings are full of tiny details that can sneak up on you. As a Ventura County wedding planner, I’m here to make sure your day flows smoothly from “I do” to the last dance. So let’s talk about the little things that can cause big problems if they’re forgotten.

1. Extra Time in Your Getting Ready Schedule

Hair and makeup always take longer than expected. Always. Between unexpected delays, group touch-ups, and last-minute outfit fixes, it’s easy to fall behind. Adding a 30–60 minute buffer gives you breathing room and makes time for things like a first look or a quiet moment before the ceremony.

2. A Plan for Feeding Your Wedding Party

Your bridal party will likely be with you all day—and no one performs their best on an empty stomach. Pre-ordering breakfast or lunch (especially something easy like wraps or fruit platters) keeps energy up and moods high. Don’t forget water, coffee, and maybe a mimosa or two.

3. Comfortable Shoes (for Later)

Those gorgeous heels? Perfect for the aisle, not so great after hours of walking, standing, and dancing. Having a pair of stylish flats or even cute sneakers can be a total game changer. Trust me, no one wants to limp through their reception.

4. Marriage License Pick-Up & Drop-Off

You’d be surprised how often couples forget the paperwork in the middle of all the fun. Each California county has its own requirements for when and how to apply, so do your research early. And after the ceremony, designate someone to safely store or mail it—don’t let it get lost in the shuffle.

5. Tips and Final Payments for Vendors

Vendors don’t expect tips, but it’s always appreciated—and many contracts require final payments the day-of. Label envelopes clearly (with cash or checks inside) and hand them off to your planner or a responsible guest. This avoids awkward money convos during the party.

6. A Rain Plan—Even in Sunny SoCal

Ventura County might be known for sunshine, but I’ve seen surprise showers more than once. If you’re planning anything outdoors, you must have a solid Plan B—whether that’s a tent rental on standby or an alternate indoor space. It’s all about peace of mind, no matter what the weather decides to do.

7. Signage for the Basics

Signs don’t just look pretty—they help guests navigate your event without confusion. Think about signage for parking, restrooms, ceremony seating, the bar, and gift tables. It also saves you from answering the same questions all night (or worse, making your grandma wander around looking for the bathroom).

8. A Safe Place for Cards & Gifts

Guests will be bringing cards, checks, and even sentimental keepsakes. Having a designated, lockable box or a trusted friend to watch over the gift table helps avoid misplaced or forgotten items. Make sure this person also knows where everything should go at the end of the night.

9. Phone Chargers & Emergency Tech

In today’s world, your phone is your safety net—but batteries don’t last forever. A dead phone means no photo sharing, no vendor contacts, no music backups, and no directions for guests. Toss a couple of portable chargers into your bag and ask your wedding party to do the same just in case.

10. Time to Be Alone with Your Partner

With everything going on, it’s shockingly easy to spend your wedding day surrounded by people—but not really with your new spouse. Set aside 10–15 minutes after the ceremony to just sneak away together, breathe, and soak in the moment. It might be the only quiet you get all day, and it’s always a favorite memory.

Don’t Worry—We Handle the Details

These are the little things we plan for behind the scenes—because we want you to be fully present and joyful on your wedding day, not stuck searching for a charger or fielding vendor texts. At Amaziling Events, we think two (okay, ten) steps ahead so you don’t have to.

Want a wedding day that’s calm, seamless, and everything you hoped for?
